"Lento, pero seguro". Ese es el lema que mejor refleja la gestión, hasta el momento, de Diego Hernández, presidente ejecutivo de Codelco, quien en los pocos meses que lleva al mando de la principal empresa del país, ha realizado escasos cambios.

Si bien esas variaciones en la plana ejecutiva se han dado lentamente y sólo a nivel central, el gran cambio que se espera es la modernización total, que sería la primera de la historia desde que el cobre pasó a ser completamente del Estado chileno en 1970.

Según divulgó el diario La Tercera, los cambios que realizaría Hernández pasan por reducir la cantidad de divisiones que tiene la estatal minera. Actualmente opera con 5 (Norte, Salvador, Ventanas, Andina y El Teniente) y quiere llegar a sólo 2, de tal manera que quede la actual Codelco Norte y una división sur.

La idea del presidente ejecutivo es que la empresa sea mucho más productiva y eso pasa también por una notable baja en los costos y para eso se necesita optimizar la administración y aumentar la sinergia entre las divisiones que actualmente se hace muy difícil al ser 5.

Otros de los puntos favorables para Hernández sería que en términos prácticos para estas dos grandes divisiones tendrían dos vicepresidentes directamente bajo su mando. De esta manera, se simplificaría la cantidad de ejecutivos que le reportan directamente. Actualmente, el presidente ejecutivo recibe información periódica de 12 personas, además de su staff.

Nuevas divisiones

De concretarse la idea de Diego Hernández, que ya la ha conversado con sus asesores directos y también están en conocimiento los principales ejecutivos de las divisiones, Codelco quedaría dividida en dos divisiones.

La división sur, estaría compuesta por los centros de trabajo El Teniente, Ventanas y Andina. Mientras que Codelco Norte ampliaría su rango operativo porque además de seguir con Chuquicamata y RT se unirían el nuevo yacimiento Ministro Hales y El Salvador.

Sobre estos último hay dos consideraciones que seguramente en los próximos días serán de debate por parte de los representantes de los trabajadores. La Primera es que Mina Gaby seguirá sólo como filial de Codelco y no estará inserta en ninguna división y lo otros es que MMH sería parte de la división Codelco Norte, a diferencia de lo que se dijo y además fue aprobado por el directorio de la estatal que funcionaría tal como lo hace Gaby.

La propuesta

Hay que recordar el que pasado 14 de julio asumió la Gerencia de Gestión Estratégica, la ex directora del Registro Civil, Rossana Pérez, quien se ha encargado de ver la mejor forma para aumentar la eficiencia y productividad de la cuprífera. Ella sería la promotora del proyecto.

La semana que viene Diego Hernández viajará a China, para estar presente en la Expo Shanghai, pero a su regreso, es decir la segunda semana de agosto, tomaría la determinación y haría efectivos los cambios.

Los nombres

Si bien los nombres aún se están por ver y confirmar, los nombres saldrían de la administración actual, aunque también existe la posibilidad que lleguen desde el mundo privado.

Sergio Jarpa es uno de los primeros de la lista para seguir a cargo de Codelco Norte. Según trascendió, Hernández siempre lo ha tenido considerado, lo conoce bien y está conforme con su trabajo.

Pero otros de los candidatos es el ex gerente de Minera Gaby Luis Farías, que actualmente se desempeña como vicepresidente corporativo de Control de Gestión y Excelencia Operacional.

Para la división sur podría ser Ricardo Alvarez, actual vicepresidente corporativo de El Teniente.
